Pronghorn Model Lines Explained
- Pronghorn UT — Pronghorn’s UT series skirted truck bed — enclosed side boxes, integrated lighting, gooseneck and bumper-pull hitches. Available for both single and dual rear wheel trucks.
How to Choose the Right Pronghorn Bed for Your Truck
Two measurements decide what fits, and getting them wrong is the most common mistake buyers make:
- Cab-to-axle (CA) — measure from the back of the cab to the center of the rear axle. This is the number that determines which bed length fits your chassis. We stock 40″, 42″, 56″ and 58″ CA.
- SRW vs DRW — single rear wheel or dual rear wheel. Dually trucks need a wider bed with different wheel-well spacing; they are not interchangeable.
After that it comes down to how you work the truck. If you haul and need maximum open deck, go with an open flatbed. If you carry tools and want them locked up, a skirted bed or service body is worth the extra money. If you are lifting heavy equipment, you need a crane-ready body from the start — retrofitting later costs more.

Who Buys Pronghorn Around Here
Pronghorn buyers are usually replacing a bed that wore out too fast. They tend to be commercial operators and serious ranchers who keep trucks a long time, work them hard, and would rather pay once. If you are putting 30,000 miles a year on a work truck, this is the tier to look at.
What Comes Standard
Exact equipment varies by model line, but the flatbeds we stock typically arrive with LED brake, clearance and reverse lighting, a sealed wiring harness, a rear bumper with receiver hitch, a 30,000 lb gooseneck hitch, a headache rack, and rub rails with stake pockets. Service and utility bodies come with the compartment layout for that line, and crane bodies add the reinforced subframe. Ask us for the exact spec sheet on any unit before you buy — we will send it.
Why Buy From Star Truck Equipment
- We stock multiple brands — 5 Pronghorn units are on the lot alongside our other lines, so we can point you to the right bed instead of the only bed.
- We install what we sell — same-day on most trucks, done by a team that fits these bodies every week.
- Real prices on the website — what you see is the cash or Texas check price, not a lead-bait number.
- Delivery and financing — across Texas and into Louisiana, with local and national lenders available.
Pronghorn Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a Pronghorn truck bed cost?
In-stock Pronghorn UT beds at Star Truck Equipment currently run about $9,900 to $10,800 — cash or Texas check price, plus tax. Installation is $1,500 on most trucks. Call (979) 532-1486 for a quote on your exact configuration.
What sizes do Pronghorn beds come in?
We currently stock Pronghorn UT beds in 40″, 42″, 56″ and 58″ cab-to-axle, for both SRW and DRW trucks. Measure from the back of your cab to the center of the rear axle to find your CA.
Is a Pronghorn worth the extra money over a budget flatbed?
It depends on how hard you work the truck. Pronghorn sits in the premium tier — heavier build and better finish than entry-level steel flatbeds, at roughly double the price of the cheapest options. For daily commercial use and better resale, most buyers find it worth it; for occasional ranch work, a lighter bed may be the smarter spend.
How does Pronghorn compare to CM or Bedrock?
Pronghorn generally competes at the top of the market on build quality and finish, while CM and Bedrock offer wider model ranges and lower entry prices. We stock all three, so we’ll give you a straight answer for your use case — see our comparisons below.
Do you install Pronghorn beds the same day?
Most installations are completed in one business day at our Wharton shop, including bed removal, mounting, wiring and hitch hookup.
