Norstar Model Lines Explained

  • Norstar SD — Norstar’s skirted flatbed — the line the brand is known for. Enclosed lockable side boxes, LED lighting, gooseneck and bumper-pull hitches.
  • Norstar UB — Norstar utility/service body — enclosed compartments for tools and parts. Built for mechanics, utility and service fleets.
  • Norstar WH — Flat deck hauler configuration for heavier towing and equipment moving.

How to Choose the Right Norstar Bed for Your Truck

Two measurements decide what fits, and getting them wrong is the most common mistake buyers make:

  • Cab-to-axle (CA) — measure from the back of the cab to the center of the rear axle. This is the number that determines which bed length fits your chassis. We stock 40″, 56″, 57″, 58″ and 60″ CA.
  • SRW vs DRW — single rear wheel or dual rear wheel. Dually trucks need a wider bed with different wheel-well spacing; they are not interchangeable.

After that it comes down to how you work the truck. If you haul and need maximum open deck, go with an open flatbed. If you carry tools and want them locked up, a skirted bed or service body is worth the extra money. If you are lifting heavy equipment, you need a crane-ready body from the start — retrofitting later costs more.

Installation, Delivery and Financing

We install every bed we sell at our Wharton, TX facility. A typical installation includes removing your factory bed, mounting and aligning the new body, full wiring integration (tail, turn, brake and reverse lights), and hitch connection — then a final inspection before you drive off. Installation is $1,500 on most trucks and most jobs finish the same business day.

We deliver throughout Texas and into Louisiana, and we can point you to local and national lenders for financing. See our financing options.

How Norstar Compares to Other Brands

We carry multiple brands, so we have no reason to oversell one. Honest head-to-head comparisons:

Who Buys Norstar Around Here

Norstar splits two ways: the SD skirted bed goes to ranchers and contractors hauling with locked side storage, and the UB utility body goes to service and utility fleets — mechanics, plumbers, electricians and municipal crews working out of the truck.

What Comes Standard

Exact equipment varies by model line, but the flatbeds we stock typically arrive with LED brake, clearance and reverse lighting, a sealed wiring harness, a rear bumper with receiver hitch, a 30,000 lb gooseneck hitch, a headache rack, and rub rails with stake pockets. Service and utility bodies come with the compartment layout for that line, and crane bodies add the reinforced subframe. Ask us for the exact spec sheet on any unit before you buy — we will send it.

Why Buy From Star Truck Equipment

  • We stock multiple brands — 21 Norstar units are on the lot alongside our other lines, so we can point you to the right bed instead of the only bed.
  • We install what we sell — same-day on most trucks, done by a team that fits these bodies every week.
  • Real prices on the website — what you see is the cash or Texas check price, not a lead-bait number.
  • Delivery and financing — across Texas and into Louisiana, with local and national lenders available.

Norstar Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a Norstar truck bed cost?

In-stock Norstar units at Star Truck Equipment currently run about $9,550 to $11,950 — cash or Texas check price, plus tax. Installation is $1,500 on most trucks. Call (979) 532-1486 for your configuration.

What’s the difference between the Norstar SD and UB?

The SD is a skirted flatbed — open deck with lockable side boxes, for hauling. The UB is a utility/service body — fully enclosed compartments, for carrying tools and working out of the truck. Different jobs entirely.

Which Norstar sizes do you stock?

We currently carry cab-to-axle sizes including 40″, 56″, 57″, 58″ and 60″, in both SRW and DRW. Measure back of cab to center of rear axle to find yours.

Is Norstar better than CM or Bradford Built?

Norstar competes closely with both. Norstar’s SD is a strong skirted bed; CM offers a wider model range and lower entry price; Bradford Built has its own following in the hay and ranch market. We stock the alternatives and will give you a straight comparison — see the links below.

Do you install and deliver?

Yes — most installations finish in one business day at our Wharton shop, and we deliver across Texas and into Louisiana. Financing available.
