Spec it honestly and it is one of the best-riding work trucks you can put a body on. Here is how we approach 2500HD service body builds.

Payload is the constraint — do this math first

When the 2500HD is the right truck

• Light residential service: HVAC maintenance, electrical service calls, appliance and low-voltage work.
• Fleets that value ride quality and fuel economy over maximum capacity.
• Any build where you can specify an aluminum body and save 500+ lb.
• Trucks that do not tow a loaded gooseneck trailer on top of the body load.

When to move up to a 3500HD

• You carry a welder, a compressor, or a fuel/water tank.
• You run an under-body or service crane of any size.
• You keep a full parts inventory on the truck instead of restocking daily.
• You tow more than about 12,000 lb regularly while loaded.

Fitment notes for the 2026 Silverado 2500HD

Standard-bed 2500HD trucks convert to an 8-foot service body cleanly; short-bed crew cabs generally take a shorter body or need a chassis with the correct CA. If you are ordering a cab and chassis, spec 60-inch CA for an 8-foot body. Existing truck? Measure back-of-cab to axle center and call us with the number.
