A well-organized service body pays for itself in minutes saved per job. Technicians who dig for a fitting or a battery tool lose real billable time every day. Here is how the team at Star Truck Equipment in Wharton, TX, helps Texas and Louisiana crews set up their service bodies for speed.
Start With How You Work
List what you reach for on every call, and what you need only once a week. Daily tools belong at waist-to-shoulder height in the most accessible compartments. Heavy, rarely used items go low; light bulky items go high.
Compartments and Adjustable Shelving
Most STI, CM, and RKI service bodies offer adjustable shelving, so you can resize compartments as your equipment changes. Use shelf lips or rubber liners so tools do not slide when you brake.
Drawers and Bins
Drawers keep small parts visible. Label bins by category: fasteners, electrical, fittings, consumables. Keep a standard restock list so every truck in the fleet is stocked the same way, which helps when techs swap vehicles.
Vertical Storage and Racks
Ladder racks, pipe racks, and vertical tube compartments free up deck space. See our truck accessories for add-ons.
Weight Balance
Distribute weight evenly side to side and keep heavy items ahead of the rear axle when possible. Remember that tools count against payload, so confirm your total against the truck’s GVWR.
Security and Weather
Look for sealed doors and quality locks to protect tools from dust, rain, and theft. A tidy layout also makes missing tools obvious at a glance.
