Getting a new truck bed installed is exciting — but you’re probably wondering how long you’ll be without your truck. Here’s what to expect when you bring your truck to Star Truck Equipment for a flatbed installation.
Short Answer: Most Installs Take One Day
A standard flatbed truck bed installation takes 4-8 hours depending on the truck, bed type, and any additional accessories. Most customers drop off their truck in the morning and pick it up the same afternoon or evening.
What’s Involved in the Installation?
- Factory bed removal (1-2 hours) — We remove your existing truck bed, disconnect wiring, and unbolt it from the frame
- Frame prep (30-60 minutes) — Clean mounting points, inspect frame, and prepare for the new body
- New bed mounting (1-2 hours) — Position the new flatbed, align it precisely, and bolt it down securely
- Electrical integration (1-2 hours) — Wire all lights (tail, turn, brake, marker, backup), connect gooseneck and bumper hitch wiring
- Hitch installation (30-60 minutes) — Install and test gooseneck and bumper pull hitch receivers
- Final inspection (30 minutes) — Test all lights, check mounting, verify everything is road-ready
What Takes Longer?
Some installations take longer than others:
- Service bodies and crane bodies require more complex wiring and may take 1-2 days
- Adding accessories (toolboxes, extra lighting, air compressors) adds time
- Older trucks may have rusted bolts or other issues that slow removal
- Hydraulic crane integration can add a full day for hydraulic line routing and testing
