International CV Series vs Ford F-600: Which Chassis Wins for a Service Body?

Fleet buyers and independent contractors across Texas and Louisiana increasingly cross-shop the
International CV Series against the Ford F-600 when they’re specing a
medium-duty service body truck. Both chassis sit above the traditional F-550/Ram 5500 class and below full
Class 6/7 trucks, giving upfitters more GVWR to work with — but the two platforms fit different jobs. At
Star Truck Equipment in Wharton, TX, we build and install
service bodies on both, so here’s what actually
matters when you’re deciding between them.

GVWR and Payload

The Ford F-600 slots in around a 22,000 lb GVWR on many configurations, giving buyers a meaningful step up
from the F-550 without moving into a full commercial cab. The International CV Series (built on the same
platform Ford/International share heritage with in the medium-duty segment) is offered in a similar 19,500–25,999
lb GVWR range depending on trim and axle spec. In practice, both platforms give a service body upfit plenty of
payload margin for a fully loaded compartment box, cranes, welders, and air compressors — the real difference
shows up in axle and suspension options at the higher end of each range, so match your GVWR need to the specific
trim, not just the model name.

Cab Comfort and Driver Experience

The Ford F-600 shares its cab with the F-450/F-550 lineup, so drivers get a familiar, car-like interior with
Ford’s infotainment and driver-assist features — a real advantage for fleets running mixed F-Series trucks who
want consistent training and parts commonality. The International CV Series uses a more traditional
medium-duty cab, which some crews find roomier for all-day work but less refined for daily commuting between
job sites.

Service Body Fit and Upfit Considerations

Both chassis accept standard service body mounting patterns, so brands we carry like
CM,
Norstar, and
STI (Service Trucks International) can all be
mounted without custom bracketry. Where it matters most is frame length and CA (cab-to-axle) measurement — the
F-600 is available in more CA configurations from the factory, which can simplify body selection, while the
International CV Series sometimes requires more attention to overhang and body length matching. Our team
measures every chassis before ordering the body to make sure compartment doors, lighting, and hitch clearances
line up correctly.

Which One Should You Choose?

  • Choose the Ford F-600 if you run a mixed F-Series fleet, want a familiar cab, and need
factory CA flexibility for a compact service body.
  • Choose the International CV Series if you need higher GVWR headroom at the top of the
range or already run International trucks in your fleet and want parts/service commonality.

Both platforms are solid choices when paired with the right service body for your trade — whether that’s a
mechanics truck, lube truck, or crane body. If you’re also comparing lighter-duty chassis, see our guide on
