A large-animal or mobile vet practice lives out of the truck. Between pasture calls, pens, and muddy ranch roads, the body on your chassis decides how fast you can find a drug, a chute accessory, or a set of calving chains. Star Truck Equipment in Wharton, TX upfits trucks for farm-call professionals across Texas and Louisiana.
Why a Service Body Fits Most Vet Trucks
Enclosed, lockable compartments keep medications, surgical packs, and instruments organized and out of the dust. A service body gives you vertical and horizontal compartments on both sides, and many have shelving that can hold bins by species or procedure. Brands we carry include STI, CM, and RKI.
Key Features to Specify
- Compartment layout: shallow drawers or trays for small instruments, tall compartments for fluids and long-handled tools.
- Water and wash-down: a mounted tank or rack for jugs for cleaning boots and equipment between farms.
- Ladder and tie-down options: for panels, portable chutes, or supplies on top.
- Lighting: work lights on the sides and rear for early-morning and late-night calvings. See our truck accessories.
- Locking: single-point locking keeps controlled substances and equipment secure, which matters at unattended ranch gates.
When a Flatbed Makes Sense
If you haul portable pens, panels, or a chute alongside your kit, a flatbed with under-deck or side toolboxes is a flexible alternative. It also suits mixed practices that carry feed samples or equipment between clinics. Browse truck beds for sale to compare lengths and configurations.
Payload and Chassis Considerations
Add up the body, a loaded water tank, drugs, and equipment, then check against your chassis GVWR. Many vets choose a one-ton SRW or DRW pickup chassis for a balance of payload and maneuverability on narrow ranch roads. We can help match the body to your truck, and you can read our blog for related configuration guides.
