2024 Ford F-350 Truck Bed Options — Flatbeds, Service Bodies & Crane Bodies
The 2024 Ford F-350 Super Duty remains one of the most popular work trucks in Texas and Louisiana. Whether you’re hauling equipment on a ranch, running service calls as an HVAC tech, or working an oilfield crane truck, the F-350 has the payload and frame strength to support a serious aftermarket truck body. At Star Truck Equipment in Wharton, TX, we outfit F-350s every week with flatbeds, service bodies, crane bodies, hay beds, and more.
2024 Ford F-350 Cab-to-Axle (CA) Measurements
Before ordering a truck body, you need to know your CA measurement — the distance from the back of the cab to the center of the rear axle. The right body length depends entirely on your CA. The 2024 F-350 is available in three cab styles with different CA configurations:
- Regular Cab 4×2 / 4×4 — CA 56″, 84″
- SuperCab 4×2 / 4×4 — CA 60″, 84″
- Crew Cab 4×2 / 4×4 — CA 56″, 60″, 84″
As a rule of thumb, body length = CA + 12″ to 18″. A 56″ CA supports a 7 ft body; a 60″ CA supports a 7–8 ft body; an 84″ CA supports a 9–10 ft body. Most commercial body work on the F-350 uses the 60″ or 84″ CA configurations.
SRW vs DRW on the 2024 F-350 — Which Do You Need?
The F-350 is available in both Single Rear Wheel (SRW) and Dual Rear Wheel (DRW) configurations. For most flatbed and service body applications 8 feet or longer, DRW is the better choice — it adds stability under load and gives you more payload margin. SRW works well for lighter flatbeds and shorter service bodies, especially if you’re maneuvering in tight spots. If you’re mounting a crane or running a heavy lube/service setup, go DRW.

2024 F-350 vs F-450 — When to Upgrade
If you’re hauling near the edge of the F-350’s payload capacity, the Ford F-450 may be a better fit. The F-450 offers a GVWR up to 19,500 lbs vs the F-350’s 14,000 lbs — a huge difference when you’re running a loaded crane body or heavy service setup. For flatbeds and standard service bodies, the F-350 is usually plenty. For crane trucks and lube trucks, consider stepping up to an F-450 or F-550.
